How to Write a Dissertation Introduction
The Introduction is the first chapter of a dissertation and provides a snippet view of the work that is to come in the following pages. Its work is to whet the curiosity of the reader and keep set the standard for the work presented further into the document. Moreover, reviewer usually works on a tight schedule and devotes time to only those dissertations that manage to enthrall him. A well-written introduction can make or break your dreams of getting good grades.
Most students find introduction writing difficult mainly because they are not aware of what is expected of them in this section. Here are a few tips that will help you in this task:
- Introduction should ideally be 200 to 300 words long and not exceed 2 sides of a standard page.
- It must reflect all the information given in the following chapters.
- It is a good idea to start the chapter by explaining the research question and the prime methodology used.
- Use simple and short sentences with a free flowing grammar.
So, do not shy away from giving enough time and thought while writing the introduction for your dissertation. Instead of simply conjuring sentences out of nothing, devise a plan in such ways that you put up the most effective two pages in your dissertation.

I’m facing a lot of trouble in cutting short my intro chapter to 2 pages from 5. Is it necessary to make it 2 pages?
