Role of Hypotheses

Hypotheses are an assumption, assertion or an idea about a phenomenon or situation, the truth of which is dependent upon the results of your study. The verification process, i.e. the study can have one of the following outcomes:

  • True
  • Partially true, or
  • False

The hypotheses formulation brings a focused study, thereby giving you a direction with specific aspects of a research problem to investigate. A hypothesis determines what data to collect and what not to. It enhances objectivity in the study. An added function of theory formulation is also the result of hypotheses, wherein it specifically concludes the true and the false aspect.
